Payment options
How patients pay at Oracare — and how we can help if cost is a concern.
On-the-spot health fund claims
We're set up with HICAPS, so if you have private health insurance with extras dental cover, we process your claim at the time of your visit. You pay only the gap on the day — no waiting for reimbursement, no paperwork to chase.
We're preferred providers for NIB and TUH, which means eligible members of those funds often pay no gap at all on routine check-ups and cleans.
For any other fund (BUPA, Medibank, HCF, Police Health, Defence Health, smile.com.au and the rest), we'll process the claim the same way — what your fund covers depends on your policy.
In-house payment plans
For larger treatment plans, we offer interest-free in-house payment plans so you can spread the cost over time. We work with you to set a schedule that fits your budget — no third-party finance company involved.
Ask our team about an in-house plan when you're discussing your treatment plan — we'll talk through what's available based on your specific case.
Super-release for major dental treatment
In specific circumstances, you may be able to access part of your superannuation early to fund significant dental work. This is the ATO's compassionate-release-of-super program, and it's an option a small number of our patients use for major restorative work, full-mouth rehabilitation, or treatment of severe ongoing dental conditions.
A few things to know:
- The funds must be paid directly from your super fund to Oracare — you can't receive the money personally and forward it.
- The treatment usually has to be for a medical condition that affects function (chronic pain, inability to chew, etc.) rather than purely cosmetic work.
- Approval is at the discretion of the ATO and your super fund — there's no guarantee.
- We provide the supporting clinical documentation; you (or a third-party service) handle the application.
Applying yourself via the ATO
You can apply directly through the ATO's online portal. We'll write the supporting clinical letter; you submit the application, your fund processes it, and the funds are released directly to us once approved. Time from application to release is typically four to six weeks.
Using a third-party service
Several Australian providers (SuperCare, Access My Super and similar) handle the paperwork on your behalf for a fee. They prepare the application, liaise with your super fund and the ATO, and follow up. The fee is usually a percentage of the released amount.
Either path works — the right choice depends on how much time you have and how comfortable you are with the paperwork. Talk to us if you'd like more guidance.
Other options
Buy-now-pay-later (Afterpay, Humm, Zip) — these are available on request, but we don't actively promote them; for most patients an in-house payment plan works out better.
No-cover patients — if you don't have health insurance, our standard fees apply. Ask us for a quote before any work begins; everything is in writing.
